these trees are tall, and really straight. They range between 800-1000 years old.

a good seafood lobster meal after a long day** Story about the family tree ( the almost blackish-looking one in the middle)The black tree was discovered in 1976, and at that time, the tree was determined to be around 200 years old. The tree had died, but the roots had sprouted underground, and led to many newer trees growing around the dead tree.
We went to San Francisco this Memorial Day weekend. Here's a brief summary of our trip:Our flight was 7.30pm Friday evening from DFW to SFO. Yifan had to work that day, and he only got home at around 6pm. As you can imagine, it was a mad rush to the airport ( like how it usually is for us each time we travel). Luckily I'd already checked us in online the night before, so we managed to board the plane just 5 minutes before take-off. Phew!Weather in Frisco was great-- in the day, it was around 15 deg, at night, around 9 or 10. A little chilly at times ( because it was so windy the entire time we were there), since I'd brought only one light sweater for the trip. We stayed at Travelodge on Market St. Great location, with Alamo Car Rental just a stone's throw away. That's where we rented our car, a Nissan Murano, for the next 2 days. This being a holiday weekend, most of the rental companies were totally out of rental cars. We were very lucky to get one despite not having made prior arrangements. DAY ONE:- Dim sum breakfast at some restaurant in Chinatown. But not before spending an hour driving up and down Jackson St and Broadway just to get a parking space.- 2 1/2hr drive down south to Monterey- Late lunch/early dinner in Monterey- Continue drive to Pebble Beach aka 17 mile driveDAY TWO:- Tabao-ed some food from You's Dim Sum in Chinatown before we set off for Napa Valley ( we were supposed to eat in Chinatown, but we'd already wasted more than half an hour looking for parking space to no avail)- Made a stopover in Sausalito enroute to Napa Valley- Because of the one and only lousy map we had, we took nearly 4 hours to get to Napa Valley, when it should take no more than 2 hours.- Visited a couple of wineries, mostly forgettable ones, with the exception of V Sattui Winery. That place is wonderful. I got close to getting drunk after just 5 glasses of wine tasting, and I still had another glass to go. ( note: you don't even get to drink a lot during wine tasting, so you can imagine how lousy a drinker I am). Left V Sattui nearly 200 bucks poorer, but very happy. Each of us lugged 4 bottles back to the car. * huff and puff*- Dinner was at a Hong Kong-style restaurant in Chinatown, but of course.DAY THREE:- We drove down Lombard St ( wheeeeeeee!)- Rode, or rather, clung onto the tram from Union Square down to Fisherman's Wharf.- Seafood time- Back to good ol' Chinatown for our last meal before we leave for the airport. Penang Restaurant. Yucks! A huge disappointment. - How can I leave without doing some groceries in Chinatown?? Bought 2 pounds of kailan home. Hahha. Oh, and some bao and egg tarts for the flight back to DFW too. ( fyi, no meals served onboard domestic flights, so if you ever need to travel within the US, bring along some food onboard, or pay $5 for a lousy snackbox.)Enough talking. Here are the pictures:
me and nissan murano. yifan LOVES the car and wants to buy it!
