When The Going Gets Tough

It's been total madness here since we got back from Singapore. Skylar's jetlag lasted a whole week, and just when we thought we could finally have a good night's sleep, he caught a cold virus.

This must be some super powerful virus because all three of us are now down with fever. I don't fall sick often, and when I do, I am usually back to my normal self in under 2 days, so for a cold to knock me out, it must be really bad. I was so sick on Saturday that even my toes were aching. Still, I was the best out of us three. Yifan had it pretty bad, but thankfully is now on the path to recovery. As for Skylar, we count ourselves lucky that he is only getting his first real sickness at 8 over months. But poor chap, he must be feeling so uncomfortable that he cries nonstop at night, and I have to hold him all night just so he can sleep better. Seeing him writhe in pain and discomfort is absolutely heartbreaking-- many times, I feel so helpless I feel like crying myself.

Hong Kong 22nd- 24th Sep

With just about 2 full days in Hong Kong, Yifan and I tried to pack in as much good food as we possibly could. Thanks to Xiuzi's recommendation, we found great eating places in restaurants like Maxim and Sweet Dynasty. Other than a visit to the Ladies' Market and Harbourcity Mall, we didn't do any sight-seeing, but instead concentrated our efforts on eating. We were so hard up for asian foods that we ate right up till the very last minute-- 20 minutes before we were supposed to board the flight back to Singapore, we headed for Maxim for dimsum and mango pudding. :-)

Impending Bad Weather!

Despite seeing this, we didn't realise just how serious the situation was.

Our hotel had hung up the protective mesh to prevent flying debris from hitting against the glass doors. Still, we made light of the entire situation.

We were the few lonely souls out on the streets, searching for a good restaurant for dinner. That night, we had the best meal of our entire trip!

Upon our return to the hotel, we found out that it was then Storm Warning Number 8! No wonder the locals had all disappeared, and only the angmos were left roaming around the streets.

That night, the wind howled and it rained cats and dogs. I secretly hoped that our flight early the next morning would be canceled, for I wanted to eat more mango pudding. Alas, that was not to be.

just before check-out

I had been a little disappointed that we were not able to eat at Maxim's until I caught sight of this while waiting in line for the check-in counter at the airport.

It was fate!

Mission accomplished! :-)

San Francisco 18th- 21st Sep

On our latest trip back to Singapore, we took a short vacation in San Francisco and Hong Kong before continuing on the long journey home. This was the first time we travelled out of state since Skylar's birth, and thankfully, Skylar was his usual happy and playful self during the flight from DFW to SFO.

He was so happy to see his favorite toy- Dino after the 3 hour flight.

We had a 2-hour wait at the airport before Ma's flight got in, so we had dinner number 1 at the airport's foodcourt.

While waiting, we got bored ( and hungry), so we went for dinner number 2.

By the time we picked up the rental car, got to the hotel and met up with Pa, it was late, and we were tired, so no pics until the following morning.
