It's Been A Fabulous January

Mom's Birthday
Yesterday was Mom's birthday. Since Kel and I are both away, this must be the first time in many years that she got to celebrate the day alone with Pa...

This one's for you:

-a really big cake all the way from US of A-

On a totally different note, it snowed today. Wudja believe it?! 4th time this winter, but who's counting? *wink* Then there was a minute of hail, and Yifan made me go out to inspect the car. :-(

Super Sunday..... Not!

One of the things I dislike about living in Plano-- there is almost nothing else to do on a Sunday if you:
a) don't want to visit the mall
b) don't want to catch a movie
c) don't want to do groceries

Imagine spending many minutes getting dressed in layers ( for it is -6C outside) and the only place you are going to is Lion City Cafe. There and then back home. It's a chore!

I dunno whether to feel happy or sad that we had somewhere other than the usual Lion City Cafe to go to today. After all, it is family-Sunday today, but due to the inefficiencies of some coworkers, Yifan had to go down to the jobsite.

These photos taken in the area are of absolutely no relevance to anything, but are merely proof of how bored I was.

Before you start about how it is the same everywhere else ( ie nothing to do on sundays), I can assure you Sundays were never this lame in those good ol' days when we were still living in New England. Then, it was people-gazing, and Jamba juice-slurping at Bryant Park. How I miss those times!

2 movies in 2 days
It's been a while since we last watched a movie, so we thought we'd make up some lost time this weekend. First, we caught Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.( wooh.. that was long!)

one of my favorite scenes

And the picture of the year:

We also watched The Prestige.

Car Dealership Visit
Some pictures while waiting for the car servicing to be done:

kids' playroom in the dealership

there's wireless internet access too!

Free beverages, WiFi, TV, and if that's not enough,

I want to work at the dealership!!

After a long day, this couldn't have come at a better time:

careful, amigo!

I am so happy with the service we got from these guys. Take a look at this:

They were so thoughtful they brought a little carpet to place outside the door to rest the mattress on ( so it wouldn't get dirty). The guys also wore little " showercaps" over their shoes so they wouldn't leave dirty footprints all over the house! It's too bad I didn't manage to get any pictures of that cos they worked so fast, the whole bed was set up within minutes.

The before:

The After:

It's going to take a little getting used-to. After all, we've been sleeping on our mattress on the floor for months, and suddenly, we're ELEVATED.

I don't know how comfortable our first night will be ( with the smell of the new mattress), but I think I will like it.

On Our Way To A Good Night's Sleep

Yesterday we had, by far, the best weather we've had in the past 2 weeks-- sunny and breezy. And how did we spend that balmy Sunday afternoon? We went mattress-hunting.

Our current spring mattress is not that old, but quite worn-out ( there is a depression down on Yifan's side of the bed). Since we'd be here for awhile, we thought we should invest in a good mattress. And invest we did. We ended up buying the queen Tempur-pedic Rhapsody.

Tempur-pedic is definitely not easy on the pocket, but the minute we laid on it at Sleep Experts, we knew this was good stuff. We would have bought the top of the line King Tempur-pedic Grand had we been back in Singapore. The Grand Bed is so comfortable, it is in a league of its own.

The salesperson was nice enough to throw in a bed frame, and 2 Tempur pillows ( at a very low price) for us FREE!

This is the pillow I got:

And this is Yifan's:

I'll let you know how good the mattress is when it gets delivered this Saturday!

Who's The MVP?

A quick meal before the big game -- we picked up some sandwiches at Hooters.

The place where all the action was to take place-- American Airline Center:

Mavericks vs Lakers

we should make our own cards next time too!

the mavericks cheerleaders

go mavs go... or rather, go lakers go..heheh

deeply engrossed?

taking a break at half-time

basketball face scares me!

lakers trying to narrow the gap

After an exciting 2 1/2 hours, the Mavericks triumphed! (damn) We've never been Lakers fans, but we always support whichever team the Mavs play against. Kobe Bryant was great. Hehhe.

Oh, and a funny story-- the korean man who sat next to me got all confused after he came back in late after the half-time and supported the wrong team!! Apparently, he only remembered the teams by whichever end of the court they had to score in, and not by the colors of the jerseys, so the first 5 minutes he got back, he was cheering each time Dirk Nowitzki dunked in a basket, until eventually his friend enlightened him. :-)

A Cold January Day

The weather has been really erratic this winter. Texas has never been known for snow( although it does snow a little), but today's already the third time it's snowed this year. Not the heavy snowfall that we'd been used to getting in New England, just a light dusting of white powder, but still enough to make kids happy. Myself included.
