The Waiting Game

Have been feeling lazy, so blogging's been way down on my To-Do list. While waiting for Babe's arrival, I finished a couple of books:-

*************************

Parents are also here in the US, but other than eating and cooking, we've not been up to much.

Some pics taken so far:

*******************

Today is Mom's birthday; I got her a heart-shape cheesecake ( minus the candles, cos I am cheapskate!) More pics later tonight when we go for the birthday dinner at Tokyo One.

As of right now, Babe is still comfortably resting inside my tummy, so it seems highly unlikely that he will share the same birthday as Mom. We're all getting a little restless now. :-)

Oh, and I also wanna say that I really really appreciate all the gifts that everyone ( friends and family) has gotten for Babe.

Just The Two Of Us ...

Our last weekend together before my parents and Babe arrive!!

At Poor Richard's Cafe

**************************************

At almost 38 weeks, Dr Garner says I should be ready for Babe's arrival in the next week or so. I was 2 cm dilated last Friday, and by golly, I put on 1 kg in just 1 week!

Since I want a natural ( aka surprise) birth, I thought I'd take pictures of my tummy every weekend right till the very end.

Is this going to be the last of the pictures?? Hehhe.

Ready Or Not?

Now that I am almost at the finishing line, time seems to be crawling at a snail's pace. Days seem to pass more slowly than before, and while I want D day to come soon, I also feel anxious about the labour and delivery process.

Babe is now 7 lbs ( 3.1kg) and already in the head down position, and Dr Garner thinks I should deliver in 2-3 weeks.( I'm already 1cm dilated!!) I think emotionally, I am fairly ready for his arrival, but I don't know if I can handle the logistics and practical aspects of things. I can be quite a dreamer at times.

We've come a long way since the day we first discovered we were going to have a baby. I remember how excited Yifan was when my period was late, and how he would always say " it's not going to come, you're pregnant" while I reminded him that periods do occasionally come late.

In these past 8-9 months, I saw a different side of Yifan. Unlike most would-be parents, he doesn't talk very much about the baby. But he shows his love in his own special way. I was always making up lists and thinking about what items I would need to buy for Babe, but it was Yifan who would scrutinise each and every item I chose to determine if it was baby-safe-- the crib had to have rounded rails, the stroller must not have any sharp edges where Babe may cut his fingers...

At night, he researches online for baby names, but always says I get to decide because I am the mommy. Almost everynight, he reads up on photography techniques so he can take good pictures of my pregnant belly. He says he wants to buy the background cloth and more camera accessories to take pictures of Babe after he is born, and each time I turn around to peek at his computer screen, I see him looking at baby pictures and thinking up ways to capture the special moments.

All these, plus the little pecks he gently places on my tummy each night before I shower mean so much to me. He has never carried a baby before ( he says he wants the first baby he holds to be his own) but I know that he will be a great dad!

I don't feel left out in all the pampering, because how can I when he saves me a parking space that is a shorter walk to the restaurant while he looks for another lot for himself, he half-carries me out from the car ( becos I have difficulty getting up and out from the bucket seat), and makes sure I get in and out of the shower tub safely.

I am contented, and happy.

Owww!

Two nights ago, we had a slight accident on our way home from dinner. Thankfully, we're both fine, although my heart ached a little knowing that our car took a hit.

The culprit was a seventeen year old girl who had just gotten her driver's license some 4 months back, and ironically, she lives in our estate.. in fact, her apartment block is just across from ours. Apparently, she was talking on her phone and not paying attention to the lights, and rear-ended us when the lights were still red! ** heart pain**

Apart from a few little dings on the car doors, we now have this " fortunately" not-so-noticeable dent on the back bumper to remind us of all the lousy drivers out there. I am upset, to say the least. Yifan's more resigned to the fact, since some months back, he had the exact same thing happen to him while driving the Scion.

So please please, if you drive, don't daydream. As for my neighbor, I'm sure she's gonna remember this expensive lesson for a long time. The repairs for our car alone is going to cost her some $1000. Next time, she should choose a cheaper make to rear-end!

Into The New Year

Just read:

There was no countdown, nor any New Year's Eve feast for us. Instead, we spent the last few days of 2007 busy getting things ready for Babe-- finally brought the crib home and set it up, did some baby laundry...

Unlike in Singapore, New Year's Eve is not big here in Texas. There were no countdown parties to go to, although I thought I heard firecrackers going off at the stroke of midnight, or was that just my imagination? I had wanted to watch the "ball drop" in Times Square, but then realised that the countdown party in Manhattan wouldn't be televised on tv since we are in different time zones. Dang!

The first day of 2008 was also a quiet one for us. Yifan caught up on some much needed sleep, and I read the day away. :-) We did, however, have a nice dinner at this relatively new restaurant in our neighborhood, so it wasn't all that bad.
