Our First Family Roadtrip ( 24-26 May)

Skylar had just turned 16 weeks, and since it was Memorial Day weekend, we decided to go on our first family roadtrip to Austin and San Marcos. Since this was our third time to Austin, we channeled our energies on shopping in San Marcos instead! We did, however, take in a wee bit of sight-seeing on our last night in Austin, and did the requisite touristy thing, ie snapped some pics at the University the next morning before we made the 4-hour drive back home.

For the most part, Skylar was very well-behaved. He only fussed a little when he got hungry, while the rest of the time, he was busy looking at everything that was going on around him-- scores of women digging deep into the bins that hold dirt-cheap undergarments at Victoria's Secret, people walking in and out of the fitting rooms... Oh, and bet you didn't know that babies already start to check out one another at this young age. We saw at least 2 babies in strollers checking out Skylar when we were going in opposite directions. One of them even turned around after he had passed us by!

Alright! Enough said. Here are some pictures from the trip!!

Even before dinner had arrived, Skylar was already out. He must really be exhausted from all that people-watching.

Yifan and I enjoyed a leisurely dinner complete with an appetiser that sounds too good to be eaten-- Baby Cactus Blossoms.

For some unfathomable reason, Skylar got very tickled when we got to our hotel.

Maybe it was the huge bed with all those comfortable down pillows that he was resting on? Or perhaps he was just happy to finally be able to get out of his stroller.

at breakfast the next morning...

Before we left for more shopping, it was photo-taking in the hotel room.

the shopping continues...but before that, a baby in deep thoughts.

6 hours of non-stop shopping is no joke. Yifan and I were beat. Skylar was grouchy. But the minute we got to the hotel, Skylar was all smiles again...

... while I had the shock of my life. I knew that my ankles were hurting/aching while we were shopping in the day, but never did I once think that they were this bad.

Both my ankles were red and swollen!!! And I thought I was just suffering from overly tired legs.

Still, that didn't stop me from going out at night to see the bats at Congress Ave.

The first of only two touristy things we did-- Bat-watching at Congress Ave Bridge

Dinner in Austin was pathetic, though. Because we had to catch the bats at the right time ( ie dusk), we only managed to have dinner at close to 10pm. By then, most of the restaurants had already closed. But you could always count on the fast-food restaurants.

We had a grand ol' time.
