Gymboree

His latest pastime-- sucking on two fingers while grabbing his toes at the same time

Gymboree
We attended a trial Gymboree class today! Skylar was well-behaved ( by his standards) but really really active throughout the entire session. He was only willing to lay on his back for the first 5 minutes while he absorbed his new surroundings before he decided he wanted to be on his tummy for the rest of the 45-minute session.

getting restless

notice he was the only baby on his tummy!

me trying very hard( and failing) to get his attention

Rhyme Time Is Fun Time

I don't think it is healthy for Skylar to grow up without having the opportunity to interact with other babies, so today I brought him to the neighbourhood library for Rhyme Time.
Recommended for babies from birth to 24 months, Skylar was probably one of the youngest babies there this morning. Most of them were, at the very least, able to sit up on their own.
There was a lot of singing ( and I just realised that all this time that I'd been singing Itsy Bitsy Spider to Skylar, I'd been missing an entire verse!!) and the children were encouraged to dance along with the songs. My favorite part of the session was when the "bubbles" made their appearance.
I don't know about Skylar, but I totally enjoyed myself. I think we'll be back for more next week.

Parenting 101

Spending hundreds of dollars on baby dvds?

Reading books with titles such as " Develop and Nurture Your Newborn's Full Potential" and " How To Multiply Your Baby's Intelligence" ?

Buying/making flashcards for baby?

New-generation mommies are going all out to nurture baby geniuses. Not me! I adopt a laissez-faire attitude towards educating Skylar. I believe that the parent is the baby's best teacher, and by just being there for the baby, and talking, playing and singing to Skylar, I am giving him more than what all the dvds, BabyTV and flashcards in the world added together can possibly offer him.

Yifan and I share the same views on parenting-- we want Skylar to enjoy his childhood. Everything else can wait.

Muppet Baby

I think Skylar may be teething. Unfortunately for us, that means he is more fussy than usual and for now, it's back to those early days when he was more than a handful. On the positive side, he keeps us entertained with his oh-so-adorable Muppet Baby faces.
