This and That

I realized I have a ton of pictures in my camera that are still waiting to be sorted. I really should try posting them up as soon as I can instead of letting them all pile up so much so that eventually, the thought of having to go through hundreds of pictures turn me off.

Here’s an attempt at tidying up my camera and posting pictures where they belong:

Skylar’s Birthday 2 Feb 2009

Photos from Skylar’s 1st Birthday Party are still in Yifan’s camera, and I should really get them soon, otherwise, before we know it, we may already be planning for Skylar’s 2nd birthday party. :-) 

Anyhow, on 2 Feb, we had a small family celebration.

A few days before my parents were due to leave, I took them to the Fort Worth Stockyards for some last-minute sight-seeing.

Home Alone

Yifan left for Houston this morning, so I had Skylar all to myself the entire day ( and the rest of tonight). Taking care of the young one alone is no biggie, really, since I do that pretty much everyday.

We went Story Time at the library, and as usual, Skylar arrived feeling sleepy, but was energised the minute he saw all the other children. He had fun, and so did I!

As you can probably tell by now, he loves bags!

We couldn’t bear to leave after Story Time ended, and so lingered a little while longer at the children’s corner where Skylar entertained himself with the colored beads.

Back at home, it was tough trying to keep him happy while I prepared dinner. American Idol worked for a while, and then I turned to the “stars” for help.

There was only so much the stars could do. In the end, I was left with a crying baby, and a floor strewn with sweet potato puffs!

Dinner for One

Yifan, this is what you missed out on tonight—chicken and pumpkin soup with stir-fried vegetables and steamed rice. ;p

Fat Tuesday

Last Thursday, we attended a Mardi Gras party held by Yifan’s company, and while we did not dress according to the theme, we enjoyed ourselves very much. I had a good time catching up with Mandy and June, and Skylar was uncharacteristically well-behaved that night. :-)

A Trip To The Mall

Something caught my eye while we were at the foodcourt at Stonebriar Mall the other day:

Heh. What I really want to share are some pictures of Skylar at the mall’s play area. It was his first time there and while he was initially hesitant about venturing out to play on his own, I ended up having to crawl after him because he was just all over the place, and I had to make sure he was safe with all the older children playing around him.

Skylar’s 1 Year Old Birthday Party- Part 1

We decided to have a little party on 1 Feb to celebrate Skylar turning one. We didn’t want an over-the-top, extravagant affair, but the one thing I couldn’t compromise on was the birthday cake.

Days prior to the party, I went in search of the RIGHT cake. But alas, I was disappointed with the selection that the supermarkets here carried. Even the “custom-made” ones didn’t appeal to me. They looked boring and ugly. I wanted something special, something different.  Something like this:

 

I’d seen pictures of the cakes Sweet Art Bakery had done, so although the sketch was simple, I was pretty confident that the end product would turn out well. Still, I had to wait for Sunday morning to find out.

Mom’s Birthday

2 Fridays ago was Ma’s birthday, so I took everyone ( except Yifan cos he was at work) to Celebrity Bakery for afternoon tea.

I loved the decor of the place, and I especially liked the cozy corner --very suitable for a small group of friends to indulge in a little tete-a-tete.

For dinner, we went to Babe’s.

As usual, we had a hard time trying to make Skylar sit still at the table. The ONLY thing that could keep him entertained: –ice!

But not for very long… Soon, he was jumping around in his high-chair until… oops!

Back to his old self—fidgety and restless.

A birthday is never complete without a birthday cake.

I call this photo “ Movement”. My point-and-shoot is too slow for my baby. Now, where’s Yifan and his DSLR?

Now that’s more like it. Oh, wait. What’s with that pout, Skylar?

Aaahh. So much better.

And then, the diaper-flasher makes a return.

I only noticed that Skylar’s pants were partially down after I’d transferred the pictures over into my computer. Otherwise I would have done something about it, or would I?
