I’d gone by Dallas Zoo countless times before, but never had the chance nor urge to visit it. That is until Skylar turned one, and I thought he might enjoy being outdoors and looking at animals.

Baby Steps
Skylar took his first step last night! Yifan and I were very excited because up until then, he had not shown any interest in walking, much preferring to sit and play with his toys, and babble his days away. His favorite word is “ car” , and I think it is so cute because he says it with an American accent. No kidding!
Being a stay-at-home-mom gives me the luxury of spending all my time with Skylar, and slowly, I am beginning to see his little personality emerging. I discovered that there is a lot more to him than just his playful and mischievous self. He is a very loving baby, and he is happiest when he is playing with Yifan while clinging onto me at the same time. ( Yes, he wants both parents all at once). He crawls over to us and gives us hugs every few minutes before he returns to play with his toys.
He is a sweet child, and I am worried he gets bullied when he plays with other young children. He moves aside for other children while at play, and takes on the passive “ onlooker” role, allowing other babies (often older than he is) to snatch toys out from his hands. I am not sure if he would be more possessive about toys and such when he gets a little older, and while I don’t want him to grow up selfish and a bully, I certainly don’t want him to become a pushover in life.

The Good & The Bad
My stomach has been hurting since yesterday afternoon after a bad Indian lunch. Yifan is not feeling very good either. We swear we are never going to patronise that Indian restaurant again. Ouch!

Yogurtland
We recently discovered this little shop near H Mart that sells the most delicious yogurt. Customers choose from flavors like Lychee Tart, Pistachio, Green Tea and Cookies & Cream among many others. Everything is done DIY-style, from the dispensing of the yogurt to the piling up of various fresh fruit toppings. You then take your masterpiece to the check-out counter where it gets weighed and priced (very reasonably too, I might add).
And because it was 14th March, we had an oh-so-filling Korean BBQ dinner after that.
While on the topic of food, I think dinner tonight will be something light—I am thinking corn and dried scallop porridge, with minced pork and pumpkin soup, and stir-fried veges.

Play- Dates
Here in the US, mothers, especially the Stay-At-Home-Moms, love organizing/ attending play-dates, and while I can’t say I love it (yet), I do enjoy bringing Skylar out to meet and play with other children. In the past 2 weeks, he’d already attended 2 play-dates, AND played at a friend’s house.
Some pictures from his first play-date:-
Yesterday, we had our second play-date. This time, it was held at the play area in Stonebriar Mall.

St Patrick’s Day 2009
It was really cold yesterday—dark and gloomy. Still, we went to the St Patrick’s Day parade on Greenville Ave.
Skylar was moody the entire time at the parade, mostly because he was cold, tired and very confused—the lady next to us kept putting on the bead necklaces on him, people were shouting and waving their arms trying to get the beads and candy, weird-looking floats and people were coming and going…
We finally got a smile out of him at the parking lot before we drove off.
