It's been nearly 4 years since I've been in the US, and what are my thoughts/opinions of Americans as a whole? Not very pleasant, I must say.
I've never really understood the White-Man Superiority Complex that most Asians and White people seem to have. Perhaps it is because they are physically bigger than us, so we think they are stronger and therefore, better?! Or is it because people are still unable to shake off that colonial mentality where the Whites were the masters, and all other races their slaves?
New Yorkers aside, most Americans are snotty, ignorant, superficial, rude, inefficient... I could just go on and on. But what really bugs me is how cheapskate they can be. And people say Singaporeans are kiasu.
Part of Yifan's job entails making sure his clients are happy, and lunches with builders ( on entertainment account, thankfully) are a weekly affair. Okay, so what's the big deal with treating lunch, you say? Nothing really, except these builders call him at 10 plus in the morning, hoping to score a free lunch at 11am that same day, they expect good food ( think Kobe beef burgers), and when they get to the restaurants, they order appetizers, entrees, desserts, basically the whole nine yards. Once, Yifan even had someone bring his kid along for a free lunch! But the thing that really took the cake was when that same guy, on a different occasion, after having his fill at the restaurant, ordered another meal to bring home!!!
I'm just glad my interactions with such people are kept to the bare minimum. I loathed those times when I had to call the estate managment, and deal with the inept people from the cable company.
