Eating and others

i think i have a serious obsession with food. i was surfing makansutra at 1 am last night !!! yifan and I were planning what we HAVE to go eat when we get back. I think i might have to draw up a timetable cos there is just too much to eat, too little time. I am finally starting to understand why he used to eat 2 portions each time during mealtimes when he went back singapore last time.Unhealthy, you may say, and I fully agree. But you do what you have to do.

The other day i was talking to Pangchu ( actually i'm not too sure of her name, but let's just assume i heard it correctly the first time around) and she told me she mostly just eats instant noodles and porridge, or Xi Fan as she calls it, cos she doesn't know how to cook. But maggi mee and porridge for 3 years? Poor thing. You may not think porridge sounds bad, but trust me, it is if you just eat it plain. She doesn't really cook meat much, so its plain porridge and veges. And now, she just started this diet program that requires her to eat something called Bai Cai Tang ( whatever that is, i have no idea.-- just some green veg and soup. she apparently found the recipe online.) Yucks !! ***

I have always wondered how people can be disciplined enough to follow a strict diet. I can never do it, not that i have to. Last night, Matt on " The Biggest Loser" put on 12 pounds just by eating normal food like steak. ( And that's just over a period of days.) Geez. How do these people put on weight so easily? Oh, mabbe i should add that he's in a reality game show where " the biggest loser" in terms of weight, wins the competition, hence the name " The Biggest Loser". (He put on weight for tactical reasons.)

*** My conversation with Pangchu didn't go very smoothly because of my poor Mandarin skills. I have seriously lost my ability to converse in Mandarin. I felt embarrassed each time i had to replace some word with an English equivalent. She asked me something about singapore's Zong Lee and Zong Tong. I paused for a long time, all the while trying to recall if Zong Lee is prime minister or president. I tried to explain my inadequacy in the language. We only have ONE lesson in Mandarin despite having studied that for more than 10 years... so that really isnt very much. She told me that kids in China study English from the time they go into Primary One and they can't speak the language even after all this time. hahha.. phew ! now, i dun feel so bad. At least, my Mandarin is way better than her English. Sometimes i wonder how they survive in US colleges and make it to graduation. :)

Yifan says he'll practise with me, but each time i speak to him in Mandarin, he thinks i'm playing the fool, and will reply in English. aiyaiyai * throw hands up in the air*

then the other day, i happened to listen to this chinese song by Guang Liang, so i added " Tong Hua" to my msn nick. the next thing i knew, Joel said : " what? you listen to cheena songs?"

So much for my efforts.....
