New York Part Three

Our last day most closely resembled those weekends when we used to hang out in Manhattan while we were living in CT.

Sunday 22 apr 2007 aka earth day

I had wanted to visit the Greenmarket in Union Square but alas, the Greenmarket had an off-day because they had a donation for electronics going on. Nonetheless, we had fun taking pictures at Union Square Park.

Chinatown
A trip to NY is never complete without lunch in Chinatown.

There is a Singapore Cafe managed by Malaysians that we've been to a couple of times.

But we still love Big Wong.

Our old "friend" is no longer working there. The food's still as delicious as ever, though.

Right across from Mott St is Little Italy-- a haven for pastry-lovers.

Yifan just had his soy sauce chicken rice and wonton mee lunch, but did he stop there? Nope!

He HAD to have his eclair. Like I said earlier, this day was what a regular day out in Manhattan was like for us 2 years ago. Food, food and more food! Except because we didn't have much time, we had to cram all the eating together.

Chinatown is not just the place to go for cheap food. There's some other cheap stuff being peddled on the streets... Gucci, LV, Fendi, you name it, they have it.

You don't get a monogrammed LV paper bag from here, but instead, your new Louis Vuitton ( i'm not sure if those they sell have the correct spelling on them) bags which don't burn a hole in your pocket are safely placed in black plastic bags.... so no one knows you bought fake goods, but really everyone knows, you know? Heheh.

Remember how I said that we always run into transportation problems whenever we travel? We missed our return flight!!

It took us just 30 minutes to get into Manhattan from Newark, so logically, if the distance from Manhattan to La Guardia is shorter than that of Manhattan to Newark, less time should be needed for travelling, right? Wrong!! We took 1 1/2 hours to get to the airport, and by the time we reached the departure gate, the counter woman said the flight was closed. And that was the last flight to DFW.

We were lucky that Wendy's at the airport was still open for dinner.

Yifan was glum, while I was trying to keep my spirits up.

The thing about staying overnight at airports, or anywhere else for that matter ( other than your hotel), is that the very first time you do it, the experience actually seemed fun and exciting. The second time that happens, you grin and bear it. The third time, it's not so funny anymore, and you pray that this will be the final time.

post-script: for those wondering what was in the singapore day goodie bag, take a look at this:

5-stones ( OMG! I miss those things), rubber bands for making "zero-point, and those colourful things that I think are paper clips. The "Chope" looks like a baggage tag, and is not part of the goodie bag. We were on our way out from Wollman Rink, when some guy was giving them out, and I just had to have it when I saw how cute it was.

So there you have it! Our 3 day 2 night trip to Manhattan that turned out to be a 3 day 3 night one, and one that was action-packed, fun-filled, and muscle ache-inducing.
