There was a festival of sorts right outside our hotel on 45th in Times Square. We would have stayed longer if we didn't have to rush off for Singapore Day 2007 in Central Park.

gyros ( pronounced "giros")

Yet another reason why I love NY-- festivals and parades are held almost every single day, and the crowd.... don't you just love squishing and squashing together?

What's he lining up for?

Over at the next street, something else was going on.

Central Park

Wollman Rink, Central Park- Singapore Day 2007

The Getai performance left me in stitches.

We saw stars and celebrities...

Eric Khoo even said "bye" and waved to me as their entire group was leaving. I just stood there and waved to everyone who had perfomed earlier while waiting for Yifan to return from the restroom.
Not-so-shiny stars...

Me and the stars...
... at first, I was gawking at them.

then, I got braver and took pics with them...

While this was going on inside Wollman Rink..

... locals gathered around outside for a peek

Yeo's was giving out chilli sauce, and people were grabbing them. I would too, if I could carry them onboard.

When everything was ALMOST over...

This is so I know where to look for it when I next go back to Singapore..

The stall uncle caught me taking this picture, and he was so happy, he kept nodding his head and smiling at me. Heheh.

That's him in the pink cap having a little tete-a-tete with fellow hawkers.

One last plate of Hokkien mee before we left. Yummy!
Thank you all... We wouldn't be belly happy if not for you guys!!

The organisers even engaged these hunks to clear the trash. I suspect they hired some male models specially for the day... all white, tall, and muscular. Yifan and I got a kick out of watching men who looked like they belong in Sex n The City pick up after the crowds. The White race is not the superior race, you know? ( i think it was a deliberate choice to get caucasians, since there was not a single black or hispanic man in sight).

Look how pissed he was.
And just when you thought things can't possibly get any better, Yifan met an old friend, Hideki Akiyoshi--a Japanese photographer who scouted him a long long time ago.

Hossan Leong made an oh-so-funny, off-the-cuff joke about the "redeemed" stamp. That stamp was so difficult to wash off, I actually got a rash from having it stay too long on my skin!!!
Magnolia Bakery ( Bleecker St and 11th St)
After all that food, we went in search of more food. Destination: Magnolia Bakery, made famous by Sex n The City.

After those tantalisingly-sweet cupcakes, it was time for dinner. Again, we knew exactly what we wanted to eat. We'd watched an episode on Food Network just a few days before we left for NY where Bobby Flay challenged an Englishman to see who could make the best fish 'n chips. The Englishman won, and his shop is called A Salt and Battery. I just love the British and their humour.

My verdict: it was good, not fantastic since I think fish and chips can only taste that good, but the tartar sauce was amazing!
Manhattanites love hotdogs. There are hotdog push-carts along the roads, and there are hotdog chains like PapayaKing and Gray's Papaya. Ever wonder why the names have "papaya" in them? It's cos people eat those hotdogs with fruit drinks like pina colada, coconut champagne, and of course, papaya juice.

Now, if only I have more stomach space.
How do you like cycling with 6 other people? Apparently, these people love it.

We had tickets for the after-party at Earthnyc. Let's club the night away!

It's been a really long time since I last clubbed and I almost forgot how desperate some men are at clubs. We were sitting at a table when this guy with his two sidekicks ( one angmo, one chinese) approached to share our table. The angmo started talking to Yifan ( trying to divert attention, perhaps?), and the guy, not his sidekick, ( Jack's his name, as I soon learnt) tried to chat me up.
He introduced himself ( bad bad accent that I thought his name's Jai) and asked my name. His second question: " Is that your boyfriend?" ( pointing at Yifan who at that time was talking to the angmo).
" Nope, he's my husband"
" You don't wear your wedding ring?"
" No, I don't wear it all the time"
After 10 seconds, he and his 2 amigos excused themselves. Hah!
Then throughout the night, we saw him trying to approach girls, so many times that we lost count, and he probably did too, as I found out for myself later on.
We were getting ready to go onto the dancefloor, so I removed my cardigan and stood waiting for Yifan ( he'd gone to the restroom). A guy who was standing next to me started talking to me. He was not good-looking in any sense of the word, and his behaviour was quite a turn-off, so I couldn't wait for Yifan to get back. That guy, I forgot his name, kept coming closer and closer to me, and touching my shoulder, it was gross.
Suddenly, another guy came to my rescue, or so he thought. He obviously thought he's cute ( he said " aren't you tired of talking to that old man?") but I can assure you I would NEVER take a second look at him on the streets in broad daylight. His name-- Jack. Yes, that same Jack who tried to hit on me just a few minutes before. Apparently, he'd forgotten that I was his first target in the club!! It was sick, but the look on his face when he heard that I am already married was priceless!!!
That sleazebag left the club shortly... without much success, I must add.
What a night!
