Alter Ego

we had our first night-out last night !!! visited some friends of yifan's colleague in sherman. they are mostly europeans and very friendly people.

i loved the food, especially the italian sauage soup. Superb!! we sat at the patio and talked the whole night long ( and also fed the mosquitoes). the rest had a little to drink, but i only took sips, being the lousy drinker that i am. but at least i knew my standard, unlike Allan who knocked out after 2 vodka shots, a Corona, and a vodka cranberry mix. i thought that was a little embarrassing. after all, that was our first time meeting those people, and he was beyond hope just minutes into dinner. tsk tsk!

the host had an impressive collection of everything -- hard liquor, beer, tea.. there's Tiger Beer, Singha Beer, Tsingtao among many others.. and he's American. but then again, he is not the typical American, having travelled to many countries over the years for work. plus, his wife was born in Ukraine, and was living in Munich before she emigrated to the US.

caucasians are very different from asians when it comes to attending/ hosting gatherings. for one, the gatherings don't include their children. it is purely for the adults. it's a time for them to hang loose, get wild, eat, drink and just talk rubbish. and smoke ( cigarettes &/or cigars). with the exception of yifan, myself and a swedish lady, all there were heavy smokers. yucks!

we left at close to 1am, and Allan was still out. by then, it had already been hours since he took his last drink. sigh!!! i think KW is a much better drinker than he is.

we had a great time last night. more or less our first time with " locals".. or should i say, assimilated locals.
